Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s deputies are asking the public for help in identifying and locating a suspect in a stabbing that happened last week.

The incident happened Wednesday May 23 on Hwy. 106 between Bayou Chicot and St. Landry communities.

The victim told deputies he was traveling on the highway shortly before midnight and saw a man walking on the road. The victim stopped to ask if the  man needed help; the man asked for a ride and the victim agreed.

After the man got in the vehicle, the victim started driving west on the highway. After he started driving, the man brandished a "sharp edged weapon" and began stabbing and cutting the victim, deputies say. The victim said the man then jumped out of his vehicle and ran away.

The victim drove home and called 911, deputies say.

The victim said the suspect is a white man in his late 20s to early 30s, between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8. He was last seen wearing an orange shirt with the sleeves cut out and light colored blue jeans.

If you have any information regarding this matter, you are urged to contact the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 337-363-2161.
