Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Lake Charles man on Friday, and accused him of trying to rape an older woman at her home.

Deputies were called to a home on Leon Drive by a complaint that a man was attempting to sexually assault an elderly female as she was standing outside of her residence, a spokesman said.  The victim was able to scream for help and the suspect ran away, he said.

Deputies learned that the Lake Charles Police Department was handling a similar incident not far away, and deputies and officers coordinated their efforts with Louisiana State troopers as well. They identified Richard Wayne Barras of Lake Charles as the suspect.

Barras was arrested and booked on one count of Attempted 1st Degree Rape. He remains in the Calcasieu Correctional Center in lieu of $900,000 bond set by Judge Mike Canaday.
