Today is Memorial Day, and there are several events planned throughout Acadiana to honor those who lost their lives in service of the country. A list of Memorial Day events by Parish can be found by scrolling down.
21 names of veterans will be on display in Church Point today.
The town is honoring the men from Church Point who lost their lives fighting for our freedom.
The names of the fallen heroes will be on display at the Church Point Depot.
The depot will be open from sunrise to sunset.
Congressman Clay Higgins will be in New Iberia for a Memorial Day event at Bouligny Plaza at 6:00 pm.
In Jeff Davis Parish the American Legion Post 283 and the Welsh VFW will hold a ceremony at 2 pm at the Welsh Community Center.
In Jennings, the American Legion will host a Memorial Day parade.
The parade starts at 4:00 pm at South Main and Market Streets and ends at Marcus Cain Memorial Park.
The celebration will include the presentation of flags, a call to arms, and a prayer.
There will also be a reading of the names of 260 deceased veterans.
A group of Acadiana World War II veterans will be heading to Washington, D.C. today as part of the Heroes Flight program.
The public is invited to head out to the Lafayette regional airport beginning at 8:30 pm this morning to help give the veterans a patriotic send-off. The flight will depart for Washington, D.C. at 9:00 am.
The flight, organized by Brookshire Grocery, was free for veterans.

Fountain Memorial Funeral Home will host its annual Memorial Day Program this morning at 9:00 am.
A reception will follow the service.
Greenlawn Memorial Gardens will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony today at 12:00 pm at Walters Funeral Home located at 2424 N. University Ave.
A Memorial Day Prayer Service will occur at 3:00 pm at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery on West Pinhook Road.
ST. LANDRY PARISH
At 10:30 in Opelousas for the St. Landry Parish Veterans Memorial Committee will hold a ceremony honoring those who have died in service with a 21 gun salute and taps.
The ceremony will be held at the Opelousas Civic Center.
ST. MARTIN PARISH
In Breaux Bridge, the American Legion Post will host a public ceremony at the War Memorial Monument located in Veterans Park beginning at 11:00 am.
A reception will follow at the Veteran’s Home.
