Hospice Compassus of Acadiana hosted their Caregiver Far on Saturday.

The event allowed attendees to learn from nurses, therapists and hospice aids how to be an effective caregiver.

Attendee Kelly McManis says she became a caregiver when her boyfriend was diagnosed with terminal cancer and placed under hospice.

"He currently is not able to walk. He has a lot of wounds that need dressings. He is on oxygen. Just transfer from different chairs to the bed, trying to make his life as comfortable as possible, but in doing so, I want to make sure that I know the appropriate way to handle all of the issues so that he doesn’t incur other problems as well."
