Acadia Parish Superintendent John Bourque will be retiring in a few weeks.

Bourque says he will not only miss the people he worked with, but the children he worked with.

"I’ll just miss all the great people I’ve been associated with during these 52 years," said Bourque. "And the students. I still think students are a great natural resource we have and we have to do everything in our power to bring that out of them. And I’ll miss that. I really will."

He served as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent during his years in education.

"I think the biggest satisfaction when I look back at those years is when students come back and say ‘You had an influence on my life. You made a difference.’ That’s why we stay in this business so long," added Bourque.
