An Iberia Parish band director was arrested yesterday and booked with aggravated battery.

Lionel Collins is accused of hitting a man on the head and arms with a baseball bat earlier this month.

Deputies say the victim went to Collins’ home to get payment for work he had done. The victim allegedly had a tire tool with him, and allegedly threatened to flatten the tires on Collins’ vehicle. In response, Collins allegedly got a baseball bat and hit the victim. The victim was treated at a local hospital for injuries, deputies say.

Collins was booked and bonded out after post $5,000 bond, records show.

Iberia Parish School System officials confirm that Collins is an employee, but said that as of Wednesday afternoon they had not been informed of his arrest and could not comment on it.
