IPSO: Two arrested for carrying guns during New Iberia vigil

Two men were arrested during a candlelight vigil Monday on a number of charges including gun charges. 

During a candlelight vigil for victims of recent shootings, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were called because a man was walking in the area carrying a rifle. Deputies say there was a large crowd in the area attending the vigil on Mississippi Street and Cletus Street. 

When deputies approached a group near a vehicle parked in the roadway they say that group walked away. 

 Deputies say two AR-15 rifles, an AK-47 rifle with the stock removed and a 22 caliber revolver was sitting in plain sight inside the vehicle.  Deputies also recovered illegal narcotics and more than 200 rounds of ammunition. 

The owner of the vehicle, Derrick Adams was allegedly walking in the area with a rifle during the vigil. 

Adams was arrested for multiple charges including possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone, possession of schedule III narcotics.  A passenger in the vehicle, Tremaine Lewis was arrested for possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone
