Interstate 49 is closed at Cheneyville after a morning crash left an 18-wheeler overturned in the median.
State Police say it was a single vehicle crash, involving minor injuries, and an 18 wheeler (tanker), carrying crude oil.
The overturned tanker is not currently leaking. To recover the vehicle, the crude oil will need to be transferred to another tanker. As a result, the southbound lanes of Interstate 49 are closed, as of now, and the northbound lanes will be closed shortly, State Police said at about 12:30 p.m. today.
The detour routes are:
Northbound traffic detour route – Exit 46 (locate at the Avoyelles/Evangeline Parish line) to LA Hwy 106 to LA Hwy 29 to US Hwy 71 to LA Hwy 181 to Interstate 49.
Southbound traffic detour route – Exit 56 (Cheneyville Exit) to LA Hwy 181 to US Hwy 71 to LA Hwy 29 to LA Hwy 106 to Interstate 49.
