Governor Edwards will be in Lafayette today to address the people of Louisiana and the upcoming special session.

This afternoon’s address, entitled "Our Louisiana," will focus on the goal of fixing the fiscal cliff and what Gov. Edwards hopes to accomplish during the special session to fund state functions and services currently facing cuts.

The governor vetoed the $28 billion budget plan that the legislature developed during the regular session. That budget would have brought cuts to education, social services, and public safety spending next year to account for expiring temporary taxes.

The special session begins this afternoon in Baton Rouge.

This afternoon’s address by the governor will be held at the Earl K Long Gym on UL Lafayette’s Campus.

Motorists in the area can expect delays. St. Mary Boulevard between Hebrard Boulevard and Mckinley Street will be closed from 11: 00 am until 3:00 pm.

All bike lanes will remain open.

The governor’s address will begin at 1:00 pm in the Earl K. Long Gym. Those wishing to attend can access public parking on Mckinley Street and Girard Park Circle.

The public is invited to attend and can RSVP at gov.louisiana.gov/OurLouisiana
