Evangeline Parish deputies say a father shot his son following a series of "disturbances" throughout the day.

Deputies say on May 19, 2018, they responded to a report of a "disturbance involving a shooting" near the 7000 block of Chataignier Road.

The shooting victim was reportedly angry with family members and had been "causing disturbances" throughout the day.  At some point, deputies say he got into a physical altercation with his brother, pointed a gun at him, and attacked their mother.

His father eventually shot some rounds into the air to try to stop the brothers’ fight, but the shooting victim continued to argue and allegedly tried to grab a gun. The father told police he was afraid and shot his son in the abdomen to try to stop him.

The shooting victim was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Eunice by his girlfriend for medical attention. He was later Air Med to Lafayette General Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. No updates on the victim’s condition has been released.

The incident is still being actively investigated. No arrests have been made at this time.
