Deep in the heart of Port Barre lies a hidden kingdom protected by the elements and guarded by its gatekeepers.

Those gatekeepers are Danielle Lamke, who along with her husband, runs Gator Games in Port Barre.

Lamke says she and her husband used to travel to Baton Rouge and Lafayette to play games until space became available where they decided to open their own.

The space has transformed into a place for gathering armies lead by generals from the far-flung corners of Louisiana and where creatures and beasts are contained only by the imagination.

And while this fledgling kingdom is still in its infancy, there are certainly expansion packs in the works.

“We do want the business to eventually grow and become a board game cafe type thing,” explains Lamke. “[A place] where we have a little restaurant and they can play games and purchase games.”

And despite conquest on the mind, the leader of this Porte Barre Kingdom is far from cruel. The Lamke’s hope that people will come to their store to just be themselves and join in games with others just like them. Lamke wants people to “come here and feel welcomed, they don’t feel judged.”

And for now, heros will keep these fierce battles contained in the kingdom, behind these four walls.

With the roll of a die, our next adventure is decided. Next week we head to  Acadia Parish.
