The State Fire Marshal has sent his K-9 teams to Festival International de Louisiane this weekend.

Corporal Mitch Trahan, with K-9 Barry, and Corporal Jeremy Swisher, with partner K-9 Layka, have had their sights and snouts around the festival grounds all week, a spokeswoman says.

They’ll be on site throughout the weekend to make sure the public is safe during all the fun.

They are "explosive ordnance detection" dogs, or EOD K-9s. In people speak, that means they are trained to find unexploded bombs, unexploded weapons or explosive remnants.

There are fewer than a dozen dogs trained this way in the state.  These two are OSFM K-9s.
