Women’s & Children’s Hospital Memorial Scholarship, a memorial scholarship fund at Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA), is accepting applications for area nursing students entering their senior year of study.

The Women’s & Children’s Hospital Memorial Scholarship was created to memorialize employees like the late Tim Potier, a longtime registered nurse in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Whenever a co-worker was in need, whenever a family member in his care needed a word of encouragement, Potier was there – always with a soothing smile and what seemed like the perfect words to say at the most appropriate time.

Potier struggled with leukemia for many years. He lost the battle on Nov. 18, 2016. He was 56.

The Memorial Scholarship, founded in honor of Potier and other Women’s & Children’s nurses who left this world too soon, provides funding for educational expenses of eligible students entering their senior year in the nursing program at UL Lafayette, South Louisiana Community College or LSU-E.

The one-time, single scholarship award of $500 will be awarded each fall semester. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, May 25 at 4:30 p.m. Awardee will be announced the first week of June.

Kristen Bordelon, a nursing student at LSU-Eunice entering her senior year last fall, was the recipient of the inaugural 2017 Women’s & Children’s Memorial Scholarship.

Student applicants must have graduated high school from one of the 14 parishes in the Women’s & Children’s Hospital service area including Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Calcasieu, Evangeline, Iberia, Jeff Davis, Lafayette,  Rapides, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Vermilion and Vernon parishes.
