Several communities in Lafayette are mourning the loss of a Lafayette High student.

Jahzaiah "Jay" Colon was 15 years old and a sophomore at the school. He was in the school’s Gifted Program, and an outstanding soccer player who was on the school’s Varsity Team and the Cajun Soccer Club Senior Academy.

He died suddenly of a medical condition last week. Visitation hours will be today from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., and again tomorrow at 8 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home.

He is survived by his parents, Ana and Santos Colon, Jr.; and one brother, Messiah Colon.

A GoFundMe has been established to assist the family with unexpected medical and funeral expenses.

"Jay’s family is devastated by his unexpected passing.  They would greatly appreciate your prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.  Jay will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends, and his presence and infectious smile will never be forgotten," the GoFundMe page states.
