Lafayette firefighters are investigating a fire that happened on Sherwood Drive this afternoon.
Firefighters were called the 100 block of Sherwood at about 1:40 p.m. today, a spokesman said.
When they arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the home. The occupant and her two pets were able to safely evacuate, the spokesman said. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 15 minutes.
The home sustained moderate fire damage to the laundry room. The interior of the home sustained heavy smoke damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
