HOUSTON (AP) – A large truck hauling garbage has flipped and exploded one of Houston’s major freeways, closing all nine lanes and snarling rush-hour traffic.

No serious injuries are being reported in the wreck that also has involved several other vehicles.

The crash occurred shortly before daybreak Friday in north Houston on Interstate 45, a busy eight-lane north-south freeway divided down the center by a high-occupancy-vehicle express lane.  All nine lanes were blocked and the wrecked and blackened truck was sitting crosswise on its side across the four southbound lanes plus the high-occupancy lane.

Firefighters put out flames shooting high into the air and were picking through the bags of trash in the truck trailer to ensure the fire was completely out.
