Three people are accused of stealing crawfish in Lafayette Parish.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office has increased patrols in rural areas of the parish because of reports of thefts by local Crawfish Farmers.

Those efforts, along with the assistance of a concerned citizen, lead to a traffic stop on three people suspected of stealing crawfish, according to Lt. John Mowell, spokesman for the sheriff’s office. Deputies were able to recover 165 pounds of alleged stolen crawfish.  Police say the suspects had been stealing from area farmers on multiple occasions, stated Mowell.

Alan Turner, 46, of Duson, was arrested at the time of the incident for failure to appear for arraignment, reckless operation, improper lane usage and expired inspection sticker.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Turner, Christopher Prejean, 40, of Carencro, and Haley Briscoe, 32, of Carencro for felony theft.
