Lafayette City Police have arrested a former UL football player and accused him of raping a woman.

The woman told police that she, some friends and her roommates had come back to her home after a night out downtown. While she was in her room, Brazil allegedly came into the room and tried to force himself on her. She tried to get out of the room, but he held her down and raped her, the woman told police.

Detectives collected evidence, including clothing and a rape kit, and arrested Brazil and booked him on one count of third-degree rape. He has since been released from the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. If convicted of third-degree rape, Brazil faces up to 25 years in prison.

Brazil was dismissed from the LSU football team in 2013 after he was arrested several times.

He was booked with simple burglary, accused of breaking into an apartment and stealing cash from a wallet while the residents were asleep; he was booked with simple battery and simple criminal damage to property after allegedly grabbing a woman by the neck and pushing her down, then punching a hole in her apartment wall; and he was issued a summons for disturbing the peace by fighting after a dust-up with another student at an LSU dining room.
