Some Acadiana students are getting the chance to learn about beekeeping.
The Louisiana Beekeepers Association donated a hive with a colony of bees to Berchman’s Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau.
It’s part of a pilot program from the Louisiana Association of Sport, Outdoor Adventure, and Recreation
"I think that there is a huge stigma around bees, there’s fear and there’s just misunderstanding of the importance of them, for pollination, for sustainable agriculture, and so we’re hoping to educate at least the students we can reach, and hopefully more after that," said Valerie Nehrbass, Science Teacher.
