Friends and family members of fallen Marine Lance Corporal Taylor Conrad, who died in a helicopter accident on April 3 in California, along with members of the community, gathered in Central on Saturday for his return home, WBRZ reports

Conrad, 24, was from Central, a city of about 27,000 people in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The body of the Louisiana native arrived at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport shortly before 1:30 p.m. Video obtained by The Advocate shows fellow Marines receiving Conrad’s casket from the plane as travelers in the airport fell silent at the request of the gate agents.

Conrad and three other Marines crashed when the group was practicing landing helicopters in a rural area of California under the command of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, according to The Advocate.

The crash remains under investigation by the U.S. Marine Corps.
