The Coast Guard says they are responding to an oil spill near mile marker 100 on the Lower Mississippi River near New Orleans.

Officials with the Coast Guard say they received the report of the spill at 10:30 am on April 12. According to officials a Singapore-flagged vessel hit a pier and was reportedly leaking fuel into the river. Reports say that the vessel is now moored at the Nashville Avenue Wharf and that the leak has been stopped.

The Mississippi River is currently closed from mile marker 91 to mile marker 101 to all vessel traffic.

Several agencies were responding to the incident. The cause is still under investigation.
