Several cars of a train derailed Saturday at same place a train derailed in 2016.

Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier said a couple of the cars in the train were carrying hazardous materials, but nothing spilled. He also said no one was injured.

About a dozen cars derailed, and some of them re-railed, he said. The derailment happened at a switching station near Pecan Grove Road. That’s exactly where a train derailed in 2016, causing an evacuation of nearby homes for hours. To read our story on the 2016 derailment, click here

Sonnier said this derailment didn’t spill any hazardous materials.

"The cars basically derailed and sat on the side of the tracks," Sonnier said.

A side loader was brought in from Baton Rouge, and the cars were placed back on the tracks, he said.

The tracks had to be repaired, but that was complete and the rail was open by Saturday evening, he said.
