Rapper creates song in honor of Louisiana’s festivals

Posted

If you’ve been longing for the return of festival season, you’re not alone.

One local rap artist is making waves across the state with a new song about Louisiana’s festivals and traditions.

Upon his return from traveling abroad in the military, rapper Second Samuel discovered a new appreciation for his home state and its celebratory spirit.

"Louisiana, like said, it’s a different type of place. Its where we bring our family and our friends, our loved ones, and our kids. We bring them to the festivals," said Second Samuel.

He created a home studio and started writing about the Louisiana traditions dearest to him.

"I want to bring everybody’s attention back to what we’re really about which is southern hospitality. Louisiana, we’re at the bottom of the map but we have so much to offer," Samuel added.

His song, "Welcome to Louisiana," is music with a joyful Louisiana message that invites both locals and visitors to experience the state’s abundant festival offerings. Lafayette’s Festival International de Louisiane even gets a shoutout.

"I could automatically identify with the song. I had a big smile on my face so I said, I’m going to put your song on the radio today," DJ Flex said. "A lot of people who don’t like hip-hop, when they hear the song they don’t think hip-hop. The song is a beautiful song because it’s about a beautiful state."

You can find his song on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon and almost everywhere else you can download or stream music.
