Two candidates are seeking election to the District 1 seat on the new Lafayette Parish Council: Keith Kishbaugh and Bryan Tabor. Both candidates are registered Republicans.

Lafayette voters decided last year to de-consolidate the Lafayette City-Parish Council. Now everyone in the parish will vote on a new parish council member, and people living in the city limits will vote on both a parish council member and a city council member. Here are the questions and each candidate's answers.

Keith Kishbaugh

KEITH KISHBAUGH
1. Tell me a little bit about yourself in five sentences – who are you and what’s your background?
I have been in Lafayette for 45 years. I attended COMEAUX high and USL. I am a builder, developer and business man that started my career at 19 years old remodeling houses in the saints streets. I have been in business for 42 years. I have been a volunteer coach off and on for 42 years. I was a music minister for three different Catholic Churches for 25 years.

2. Why do you want to run for office?
I want to clean up our local government and improve our city. Make our entire parish safe and inviting to everyone. Create opportunities for the less fortunate. Solve our drainage and infrastructure problems.

3. What issue is the most important for you to tackle in your district?
Safety for all of our citizens.

4. What distinguishes you from other candidates?
Business experience, toughness and willingness to actually get things done.

Bryan Tabor

BRYAN TABOR
1. Tell me a little bit about yourself in five sentences – who are you and what’s your background?
My name is Bryan Tabor and I am running for Lafayette Parish Council of District 1. I have been a resident of Lafayette for over 40 years. I have been married to Veronica (Ronni) Arnaud Tabor for 33 years and we have 3 children with 4 grandchildren and one on the way. I am the President/Owner of Ace Plumbing/Electric. I currently serve on the Lafayette Airport Commission, the Advisory Committee for the Louisiana State Plumbing Board and Upper Lafayette Board. I have also served on Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, BBB of Lafayette and Crossroads Church Boards.

2. Why do you want to run for office?
I am running because I have been a Christian all my adult life and I feel that it is a calling on my life. Its time to bring common sense and family values back into our government.

3.What issue is the most important for you to tackle in your district?
To see if we can get more money into the Parish budget without raising taxes. As Lafayette grows all the parish sales tax dollars are getting taken when one of the surrounding municipalities annexes in a tax producing business. Without the revenues we can’t fix the other problems of drainage, roads and other infrastructure problems.

4. What distinguishes you from other candidates?
I think that with running my own business with employees that I must meet a payroll for and growing that business from a two-truck operation into a ten-truck operation. Plus, the experience that I have received by serving on the above-mentioned boards and commissions has prepared me for the job.
