UPDATE: Lafayette Police say the man who was hit by a train on Johnston Street around 5 p.m. this afternoon is okay.
The man sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Lafayette General Medical Center.
Police say the man, a pedestrian, allegedly disregarded the traffic arms at that railroad crossing.
Traffic was congested for a time, but soon was cleared.

Lafayette Police say a male victim has been hit by a train in the 200 block of Johnston Street.
We have no word yet on the extent of injuries. We have a crew headed to the scene.
Business owners in the area tell KATC that the incident happened where the train intersects at Johnston Street near the Evangeline Thruway. There are numerous officers out in the area.
A KATC crew on scene tells us that traffic has cleared and the train has moved on.
