Lafayette Police are working a major accident involving a large 18-wheeler (Sugar Cane truck). This incident is causing significant backups.
- Impact: I-49 NB at the Pont Des Mouton Exit (Exit 4) is currently closed.
- Recommendation: Traffic is being diverted. Please seek an alternate route. Allow extra travel time.
The investigation reveals that the sugar cane truck slammed on its brakes to avoid another vehicle, which caused it to jackknife. The back of the truck is blocking all lanes of traffic at this time.
Police also say a fuel tank was punctured during the crash.
No injuries are reported at this time.
