UPDATE: Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Lafayette.
Police responded Tuesday at 5:59 am in reference to a vehicle crash in the 2100 block of NE Evangeline Thwy.
A pedestrian was crossing the NE Evangeline Thwy when a vehicle traveling north bound struck the pedestrian, according to police. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died on scene.
Police say the driver of the vehicle was not injured, and submitted a voluntary breath sample and showed no impairment.
The identity of the pedestrian will be released upon notification of the next of kin.
The roadway is now open.

The Lafayette Police Department is investigating a crash with injuries in the 2100 block of Northeast Evangeline Thruway.
According to the department, the northbound lanes of the thruway are closed at Castille Road.
Traffic is being diverted to Moss Street while emergency officials remain on scene. Drivers are asked to seek an alternative route.
