UPDATE: Carencro Police have arrested a Lafayette man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on Evangeline Thruway.
Police say evidence suggests that he struck a motorist early Sunday, and returned to the body twice without calling for help.
Barrett Coleman, 42, was booked with felony hit-and-run.
Police were called to the 3400 block of NW Evangeline Thruway around 8 a.m., a release states.
They found the body of a man in the grass median; it had been covered with a blue tarp. A passing motorist called in the body.
Investigators learned the man had been walking north on the frontage road wrapped in a blue tarp - because of the rain - and was hit by a vehicle also traveling north on the road. The crash happened around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
Cameras caught the driver returning to the scene twice without rendering any aid to the victiim.
Officers with the assistance of the Real Time Crime Center and the Lafayette Police Department were able to locate the vehicle and driver in Lafayette and took him into custody.
The deceased’s information has been withheld until family notification has been made.
The crash is still under investigation, police say.
