UPDATE: A Lafayette man has died following a crash on W. Gloria Switch Tuesday morning.

Carencro Police say they were called to the road, near its intersection with Turf Road, just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Marcus Patterson, 22, was driving west on the road when for unknown reasons he crossed the center line and hit a truck traveling east. His car then hit a second vehicle head-on.

Patterson was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and succumbed to those injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital, police say. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. There was no evidence that alcohol was a contributing factor in this crash however, a routine toxicology test was completed and results are pending.

The driver and passengers of the Truck/trailer vehicle were not injured. The driver of the second vehicle was properly restrained and was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

The case remains under investigation.

Earlier today, we reported that Carencro Police are working a major crash on W. Gloria Switch Road, and they're asking motorists to avoid the area.

At least three vehicles are involved, and there is a fatality, police say.

As of 8:15 a.m., W. Gloria Switch is shut down in the area of Turf and Desoto roads, police say. The crash scene is approximately 100 to 150 yards, so it's a big stretch of the road.
