A Lafayette man died early Monday when a truck hit him while he was walking on a sidewalk next to the Evangeline Thruway.
Lafayette Police say WIlbert Davis, 66, was walking on the sidewalk in the 100 block of Southeast Evangeline Thruway just after midnight on Monday morning.
For unknown reasons, a truck traveling north on the thruway ran off the road, and hit Davis while he was walking on the sidewalk. The truck ran back on the road, and traveled northbound a short distance and then hit several utility poles, police say. The truck then came to a stop near the intersection of N. Magnolia and E. Simcoe streets.
The driver sustained minor injuries, and police say they're still investigating the crash.
