A Lafayette teenager remains in the hospital, after being shot over the weekend on South June Drive. Details on the investigation are limited, but according to police the victim is a 16-year-old girl and she's been listed in critical condition.

The shooting now has some neighbors worried about safety. Shirley Breaux, who lives nearby the crime scene says she always thought the area was safe until Sunday night.

Breaux says she heard the gunshot Sunday night and for her, the shooting happened to close for comfort.

"I got up and looked through my windows," Breaux said. "It feels not safe."

Breaux says she has lived in the area for about 50 years and now fears for the safety of the youngest residents who live in the neighborhood, especially her grandchildren. "I just pray to the lord," Breaux said. "We just got to protect ourselves, pray for them and get help for them young kids."

Police have one person in custody in connection with the shooting. No other details have been released.
