In the world of food mash-ups, some combinations reign supreme. Peanut butter and jelly, mint and chocolate, grilled cheese and tomato soup — you get the gist.
But now, Kellogg’s is challenging these classic combos by merging two of their most beloved foods for a new breakfast treat: Frosted Flakes and Froot Loops cereal! For the first time ever, Tony the Tiger and Toucan Sam have teamed up to give breakfast lovers the best of both cereal worlds in one box.
The limited-edition “Mashups” cereal mixes flakes and loops to create a new flavor combination and colorful breakfast. A Kellogg’s representative tells us the new mash-up will be available nationwide in June for $3.99 for a 9.8-ounce box and $5.69 for a 15.06-ounce box.
If you can’t wait until June, you can obviously just make the cereal yourself by mixing half a box of Frosted Flakes with half a box of Froot Loops. Or, just throw some Froot Loops in your bowl of Frosted Flakes if you don’t want to mix two full boxes!
You could, of course, combine any other cereals you think sound good together as well, or if you want a specific idea, how about merging Hostess Twinkies cereal with their Honey Bun or Donettes? That is sure to wake you and your sweet tooth up in the morning!
If you’re trying to limit your shopping trips, however, you could also try your hand at making your own fun cereal at home, which some people have turned to during the pandemic. This latest trend in comfort food has resulted in not only pancake cereal, but even mini chocolate chip cookies!
There’s no real trick to the recipe: just make your favorite pancakes, but instead of a large amount in your pan, put the batter in a squeeze bottle and make each pancake super tiny. Instagram user @hastingskitchen poured syrup on the pancake “cereal” instead of milk, just like you would with normal pancakes.
If cookies are more your thing, the cookie cereal is just as easy to make. Simply buy some pre-made chocolate chip cookie dough, cut it into small pieces, then bake the mini cookies. Obviously, you’ll want to let them cool and get a bit crisp, then toss them in a bowl with milk.
