The city of Jennings is set to start a 600 thousand dollar drainage project to help the neighborhood of Magnolia and Sherman streets.

Currently there are no drains in the neighborhood so when it rains the streets flood really bad and water comes up into many of the neighbors lawns.

This project will install new storm drains along Magnolia street to help with the flooding.

Crews will also work to expand and deepen the ditch behind the homes to help funnel the water away from the neighborhood and send it towards Bayou Nezpique.

Jennings Mayor Henry Guinn says "it's going to be a really good project for Jennings and it's going to be a great project for the residents on Magnolia and 13th street."

Work is set to begin later this spring and weather permitting they hope to be completed by the end of the year.
