LAFAYETTE — Schools being closed for a week is the perfect time to make some improvements.

Love Our Schools is back at work in Acadiana. In August, the organization renovated nine schools in Lafayette parish, but the renovations made over the summer was only the beginning. Love Our Schools is continuing to make changes at campuses in Lafayette parish, including Thanksgiving week.

Starting Saturday at 7:30 am Love Our Schools will need volunteers for the next five days to help change all the light fixtures in Lerosen Preparatory school.

"We're changing out the whole fixture, so everything you see now, is going to be pulled out and replaced with LED lighting it'll save on the electricity cost and provide a better environment for students and teachers. " Ryan Domengueax, CEO William C. Schumacher Foundation said.

They need 6-8 volunteers each day for two different shifts. The shifts are from 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m and 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Volunteers will help assist licensed electricians.

In August, Love Our Schools worked at Lerosen Prepartory School in Lafayette-from painting the hallways, to changing the floors, Principal Renee White says they made a tremendous difference.

"So to be involved in this project has been absolutely phenomenal" White said.

The work to improve the buildings where students learn will continue.

"We have other projects being installed, we have playground equipment at some schools, we have work out equipment being installed and we have done book drives were we blessed students at J.W Faulk and those are going to continue" Domengeaux said.
