Franklin man accused of covering woman's face with burning pillow

A Franklin man was arrested over the weekend accused of battery and simple arson.

The St Mary Parish Sheriff's Office says a deputy was dispatched to a business on Highway 182 in Centerville in reference to a domestic disturbance on Saturday October 19.

Upon arrival, the deputy say they made contact with the complainant who stated that the suspect identified as 44-year-old Christopher Burgess attempted to place a pillow that was on fire over her face.

The complainant further stated that Burgess had poured gas inside the residence and attempted to ignite it. Deputies went to the residence where Burgess was located outside. He allegedly attempted to flee but was apprehended by deputies.

He was arrested and transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking on the following charges.

· Battery of a dating partner

· Resisting an arrest or officer

· Entry/remaining on premises after forbidden

· Simple arson

Bond for Burgess has not been set, according to the sheriff's office.
