This week's tools for schools trip takes us to Myrtle Place Elementary.

KATC and Jim Olivier's family of companies partnered once again for Tools for Schools this time at Myrtle Place Elementary. Students in Madame Francois's second grade class were surprised with abacus calculators

"If you don't know how to subtract big numbers you can use them to so you put up the biggest number then you take away the smallest one," one student said.

The students will use the abacus to learning addition and subtraction.

"You brought what we call in French, 'boulier.' Those rekenrek are wonderful tools for kids to learn or to count or to add or to subtract in second grade," Francois said.

Francois says the students will learn to master those skills before going into third grade.

"We are very excited with having the boulier," Francois said.
