We all know that Acadiana is all about family, about giving, thinking about others. Well, the good folks at Community Foundation of Acadiana, they understand that all too well. They are the conduit, the entry point to great event called Sola Giving Day. What is SOLA Giving Day?

“SOLA Giving Day,” begins Community Foundation Executive Director Raymond Hebert, “is an outstanding, powerful online fundraising tool that Community Foundation provides for regional, nonprofits, churches and schools.”

Essentially, nonprofit organizations like these--- varying purposes and causes--- contact Community Foundation and get on the SOLA Giving Day List. From there donors can go online.. make a contribution and maybe… match someone else’s contribution. And remember--- in these pandemic times… Sola Day of Giving is all online. “How many organizations have cancelled event that they would typically have?” asks Hebert. “Well, the beauty of SOLA Giving Day is that it’s a ticketless, table-less event that appeals to the masses. It’s a social-media driven event.”

Now, just because a nonprofit signs up, doesn’t mean fundraising automatically happens. But if the group does its marketing and some strategic asking…. Who knows?

“The success of the giving day for any nonprofit is the responsibility of those participating,” explains Hebert. “We provide the tools. And the good news is in the last three years, the nonprofits that have participated have raised, for themselves, almost three-and-a-half-million dollars. And that number’s only going to grow exponentially from here.”

Here’s the challenge, though--- the deadline to sign up--- to be a SOLA Giving Day recipient--- is fast approaching. March 4th, in fact, so time is of the essence. “We encourage nonprofits to seriously consider to make this part of their strategic fundraising efforts.” But strategic is a key word, reminds Hebert; just because a nonprofit signs us, doesn’t mean money will suddenly drop from the sky. “Still, if these organizations sign-up and then your stakeholders embrace it, SOLA Giving Day could be very beneficial.”

Important SOLA Giving dates--- March 4th is the signup dates for nonprofits to become available for generous donors, and March 9th is the start date for donors to be able to start making those donations. CFA, Community Foundation, SOLA day of giving, all of us can make a difference.

(The deadline for area nonprofits to sign up for the SOLA Giving Day is March 4th. Contact Community Foundation of Acadiana at 337-769-4840 or visit www.solagivingday.org. SOLA Giving Day will take place May 6th).
