LAFAYETTE, La. — The traditional definition of a prescription usually involves bottles or pills or liquids, which are tangibles. One Lafayette pharmacy, however, is offering something aimed at giving its employees and customers a reason to smile.

There’s a good chance that, no matter what kind of protective mask you might be wearing these days, the employees of Neighbor’s Pharmacy are much more immersed in a dress-up activity.

These 20 team members see all of this as a supplement - as a complement - as another way to help their customers get their minds off things.

“You don’t know what’s coming tomorrow,” says Neighbor’s Pharmacy owner Gretchen Bodin. “So this is a way for us just to kind of let go of reality and kind of live in the moment, and just to feel good.”

Telling customers their prescriptions are ready is one way to help, and social distancing is yet another.

But now, you’ve got Neighbor’s Pharmacy providing its customers with a weekly dose of morale-booster.

“They come in and they see us, and it’s, ‘oh my goodness’, and it’s a conversation starter, and it’s good medicine for the soul,” says Bodin.

Employees at the Lafayette office did ‘Crazy Hat Day’ and ‘Camouflage From Corona’ and ‘We Are Wild About Our Customers’; and Week Four of what I call “Prescription: Dress Up” has them going back, back to a special time or event or activity from the pre-Corona Era.

“I have chosen to dress up as a Disney tourist because the Disney parks are closed and we miss the fun and the magic of everything Disney is,” smiles Bodin, fully-garbed in a Minnie Mouse costume.

It’s a scary, uneasy time. And a bright, fun, injection of positivity is working wonders at Neighbor’s Pharmacy.

“I think it’s a great idea it boosts the morale and puts a smile on customers faces and what more could you ask for?” says Bodin.

So, it’s sort of an intangible prescription. Neighbors says they may keep up this up, even when Corona hopefully--- hopefully fades away.
