You might remember how--- back in mid-October—we told you how martini glasses were being turned into candles for Healing House. We’d love to show you some of those candles. We’d love to show you how this whole project has turned out. But at Lafayette’s Caroline & Company, thanks to you and your hearts, something really funny has happened. Something philanthropically funny.

“It was amazing,” smiles Healing House Development Director Kim Thackston. “It was an idea we just maybe passed by to see if they could do anything with the past martini glasses that we had, and also the glasses that we had from this year because we weren’t able to have our big gala.”

Life gives you lemons, you make lemonade..Covid leaves with Martini glasses, you have the Bourbon Royalty folks turn the glasses into candles… the popularity of which surprised our local retailer.

“I was surprised,” says Caroline Cryer with Caroline & Company. “It was something that we had; this whole display was full and it was wiped out in days. We still have people coming in looking for them. But yeh, it was very quick.”

Now, we are proud to say that “Spirit of Acadiana” played a part in the rapid sale of 130 glasses/candles.

“And in the interim, you had run a Spirit of Acadiana for us,” says Kim Thackston. “We had some other martini glasses in the works, some other martini glasses being made into candles. Well, once your story ran, our glasses sold out in four hours (whoo whoo).”

So many neat things have come of this: obviously more revenue for Healing House. And ideas for a new event. And just the synergy between a great nonprofit, a great retailer and some absolutely great candlemakers. “And we formed a new partnership, we made some new friends, and something I think we’ll go forward with for years to come,” adds Thackston.

We wish we could show you some of the candles. “Do you have anymore in the back?" I ask. "No, we do not,” smiles Caroline Cryer.

Thank you, Acadiana.
