The search for Broadway's next Roxie Hart is underway, and one New Iberia actress is hoping to have her name on everybody's lips.
But in order to make it in front of casting directors and producers, she needs a bit of help from Acadiana.
New Iberia native and familiar face at the Iberia Performing Arts League, Kate Gulotta, joined GMA to talk about her spot as a top 10 finalist for the role of Roxie in Broadway's "Chicago."
The nationwide casting call for The Search for Roxie! officially began on September 9. And after sending in her video audition to casting directors in early October, Gulotta got the news she hoped for in an email.
Out of the possible hundreds of auditions, she had made the top 10.
For Kate, the opportunity to even be considered for the role has been a whirlwind.
"Being on Broadway is the ultimate dream for anyone in the performing arts," she says. "And to be this close to possibly achieving that, I'm literally pinching myself every day."
And to make her Broadway dreams come true, Gulotta is counting on Acadiana to take up their own starring role.
Until Friday, November 8, votes can be cast to help her snag a coveted top 3 spot.
The three performers with the highest number of votes will get an in-person audition with the musical's casting directors and producers.
Votes can be made at chicagothemusical.com/roxiecasting.
Voters can also watch Kate's full audition video on the website.
During the finalist selection process the casting directors had only good things to say about her performance.
