It started a decade ago with three women trying to coordinate their calendars.
"We wanted to make sure that we weren't scheduling events at the same time and when we could do complimentary programs between the three groups," Pat Khale, secretary of the Iberia Preservation Alliance, said.
Since then, the Iberia Preservation Alliance has morphed into something much more.
"We're not in competition with each other," Cathy Indest, president of the Iberia Preservation Alliance, said. "We come together and find strength in our unity. We have accomplished so many things culturally that we've become a cultural center for Acadiana in all that we do."
From beneath the balconies to the literary Festival, Indest says that it's rewarding to see the communities come together to embrace the work that's been done.
"Everybody involved does above and beyond the call of duty and you feel proud," says board member Ann Patout. "Everything that we do and all of the projects, as much hard work as it is, it's so rewarding."
It may have started as a way to coordinate calendars--but today it has turned into a way to preserve the memories of years gone by.
