Happening next week, the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way will host their 8th annual Women With Heart celebration in Opelousas.
The luncheon will take place on Thursday, February 13 at the Opelousas Civic Center.
During the celebration, LaVonya Malveaux of St. Landry Parish and Camille Fontenot of Evangeline Parish will be recognized for their philanthropy and community action with the Women With Heart award.
Attendees will hear from First Lady of Louisiana Donna Edwards who will serve as the luncheon's keynote speaker.
A “Power of the Purse” purse auction will also be held. The United Way says that each purse is named after songs by singer-songwriter Dolly Parton.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
Tickets for the event are $30 and can be purchased online at uwsle.org.
