Since 1999, LEF has hosted its annual Teacher Awards, honoring outstanding PreK4-12 educators in Lafayette Parish public, private and parochial schools.

The event takes place Wednesday, January 29 at 7:00 pm at the Heymann Performing Arts Center in Lafayette.

2,600 nomination letters were accepted by the foundation in September which highlighted the attributes of around 1,085 teachers.

Each of those teachers entered through a selection committee and over the course of several month were narrowed down to 16 finalists.

Those finalist represent the outstanding PreK4-12 educators in Lafayette Parish public, private and parochial schools.

During Wednesday's award ceremony, that group will be narrowed even further to the Top 4 teachers. Each Finalist receives a cash award of $1,000 and Top finalist receive an additional $1,500.

But before the awards even begin, the 16 teacher finalists arrive to the event like celebrities. Limos, a red carpet and adoring fans send teachers on their way to a night to remember.

The foundation says it's a public way of recognizing the teachers who give tirelessly and generously to the children in our community.
