GMA On the Road: The 78th annual Sugar Cane Festival

GMA is On the Road this Friday morning in Iberia Parish for the 78th annual Sugar Cane Festival.

The festival spreads across the city for the entire weekend from Friday, September 27 throuhg Sunday, September 29.

And the fun goes beyond food, music and games.

On Friday:

In just a few hours cows, goat and pigs will be shuffled into the Sugarena for the 4-H livestock show.

At 10:00 am a Blessing of the Crop will be held at Gonsoulin Farms.

Between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm festival goers can check out the art, photography and garden show exhibits at City Park.

On Saturday:

The Children's Parade will be lined up and ready to go for 10:00 am.

The fair will also continue with live music throughout the day and night.

And over at the Sugarena and City Park, the arts and livestock shows continue leading up to the announcement of winners.

At the Sugar Cane Festival building, festival goers can check out the car show featuring hot rods and classic cars. At 9:00 pm, the venue will transform into the Queen Sugar Coronation Ball.

On Sunday:

It's the final day of the fair.

The festivities start at 9:00 am with a Mass at Saint Peter's Catholic Church.

And at noon, the royalty will parading down main street.

Parking:

Several roads around the festival have been closed to traffic.

Organizers say Indest, Jefferson and Front Street will stay open to keep traffic flowing.
