Rather than take a trip to a specific place, I decided to study the skies. The Clouds over the past few days have been absolutely stunning.

The abundant tropical moisture allows towering clouds to develop as the sun heats the Earth.

Using time lapse, you can get a real feel of the layers and how the winds drive moisture in different directions.

Sometimes a lone cloud desperately tries to become a storm, but the surrounding air mass won't let it mature.

Other systems are more advanced, such as this storm complex over Acadia Parish.

Rotating storms with heavy rain shafts dance over soybean fields in Evangeline Parish. Rolling thunder can be heard for miles.

In the opposite direction, you can see the moisture flowing toward the storm with the contrasting clear skies in the distance.

The deep grays bring out the colors of the landscape, including this rice field in St. Landry Parish.

And the storms that boil on the coast of Vermilion Parish during the early morning hours are like mountains. They can be seen from miles away until the lower gray clouds obscure their majestic appearance.
