Whether you're making them for your neighbors or just to adding them to a favorite dish, pecan pralines are always a hit at this time of year!
KATC's Abby Breidenbach was in the Vermilionville kitchen with Ms. D cooking up this traditional southern treat.
See the full recipe below.
In part one we begin with the basics and get everything boiling away on the stove.
With a few more ingredients added to the mix, our pecans are ready to be spooned out into delicious pralines. Ms. D shows us how.
1 1/2 cups white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
Dash of salt
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/2 stick butter
1 tsp vanilla
Cook sugar, salt and milk until it boils; cook to soft ball stage, add butter and let it remain on fire until completely melted. Remove from fire and beat until thick. (Careful, mixture will be very hot)
Add nuts and vanilla. Drop by teaspoon onto waxed paper. If too thick to handle, reheat to consistency desired.
