With holiday season fast approaching, many of us have long road trips or flights in the near future, and on this week's Abby's Apps, we have the perfect way to occupy some of that time.

Thanks to a suggestion from our Good Morning Acadiana Producer Katelynn, today we're taking a look at our favorite Italian plumber like you've never seen him before. Mario Kart is officially an app.

And once you start, you'll be playing for hours.

First you'll have to link a Nintendo account. If you don't have one, no worries. It's free and takes just a few minutes to create. Next, Katelynn, our resident Mario Kart expert, recommends these settings.

"Menu, you go to settings, then to get the best out of your race, you want manual drift on, smart steering on, auto item on and gyro handling on, and then to turn it on just click it and it turns yellow," she says.

Then select a tour, a driver, a kart and a glider and you're ready to race.

"If you hold it down on two you'll get a boost at the beginning so you get your boost. When you turn your corners if you hold the side of the screen it'll make you drift which also gives you a boost."

As you continue to play and win, you'll get points toward buying new drivers and karts.

This app is such a fun blast from the past, the only thing I didn't like is you can't play with your friends.

Katelynn and I both hope this is an upgrade in the future.
