The St. Martin Council on Aging will hold their 4th annual "S.O.S--Support Our Seniors" Walk-a-Thon on March 7th.

That event will takes place at Parc Hardy in Breaux Bridge on Saturday starting at 9:00 am until noon.

Registration begins at 8:00 am.

Shanese Lewis joined GMA on Friday, March 6, to share more about the event which benefits the St. Martin Council on Aging's work to support and advocate for seniors in the parish.

Lewis says that the "Walk-a-Thon" started as a creative way for the agency to raise funds for their home delivered meals program.

That program feeds about 140 seniors who may not receive a meal each day if not for COA.

All ages are welcome to participate in the Walk-a-Thon. There will also be a 5K Run.

A physical therapist will kick off the run with a few quick stretches before the race begins.

Local social service agencies will be set up to provide various health screenings and distribute information.

A blood drive will also be held.

Entertainment for the event includes a DJ and Donna Angelle and the Zydeco Posse, along with local cheerleaders.

Those interested in participating can still register. The only requirement for "Day-of" registration is that participants must sign a liability waiver.

For more information, call the COA at (337) 332-3063.
