28th annual Kiwanis Pepper Festival spices up St. Martinville

St. Martinville will bring the spice this Saturday, October 26 at the 28th annual Kiwanis Pepper Festival at Magnolia Park.

The day starts at 8:00 am with gates opening for the Jambalaya and Pastalaya Cook-off.

The Festival is still taking registration for teams wishing to compete. Teams of four can register for $35.

Gates open to the general public at 10:00 am with bands, vendors, and cook-off tastings.

Admission is $5 and kids 12 and under get in free.

Activities include a fun jump area, a petting zoo, face painting, and lots of food and fun.

Entertainment including musical performances by Sal and Kelsi Melancon, Darrell Crowe, Chubby Carrier, Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band, and Jaryd Lane & the Parish

The Pepper Eating Contest begins at 5:30 pm and the winner of the contest receives $200 and bragging rights.

All of the proceeds from the event go to local initiatives like "Every Child's a Swimmer" which has helped over 130 children learn to swim this year.
