KATC’s Scott Brazda was in the studio this morning for GMA, and he sat down with Abram Freeman to chat about a Juneteenth celebration!
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement.
On Saturday, June 8th, starting at 9:00am, Gethsemane Church of God in Christ in Lafayette will host their annual Juneteenth celebration.
There will be a parade, contests, live Entertainment including Gospel, Reggae, Jazz, Zydeco, and West African, games and activities for kids, food, and so much more!
Anyone and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend and celebrate freedom for all people, regardless of race, nationality, religion, etc.
